IDC CENTRE CHECKLIST:

IMPORTANT QUESTIONS:

Ask for the ratio between teaching staff and candidates. Why?

The ratio is important because the more candidates are in your IDC the more time the group will need for the presentions. If you have e.g. only two IDC staff and a group of eight candidates you will listen to 28 candidate presentions plus your own. That is because for scoring two IDC staff are required.

But that´s not all: you will join 32 confined water presentations. Plus 16 open water presentions. Plus a skill circuit of 20 skills presented by each candidate. And what if someone has to make a remake? Or needs counselling in the skills and has to redo some? Now you probably get a feeling for how long you will be sitting in the water freezing if there is not enough IDC staff.

You think that was all? No way: You will listen to 18 presentions by the IDC staff or Course Director of at least one hour each.

Besides that you will need some time for preparing your own theory, confined water and open water presentions. And if you didn´t pass your "assistant instructor exam"or your "standards & procedures" exam at the beginning of the IDC you will have to prepare your remakes.

Conclusion:

How many IDC staff are helping you in the IDC is very important for your being successful in the IE, because you don´t have enough time for big groups.

The Ratio should not exceed 5 candidates / 2 IDC staff!
